You go to the complete opposite side of the park from where you start, then you skate as hard as you can straight towards the fence at the parking lot area of the park and ollie right at the fence. Pause it right before you hit the fence and then go to the replay editor. You rewind the replay editor until you see the trees and stuff at that side of the park disappear and it's just a white background. Unpause it and the fence won't be loaded yet and you fly through it. Once you think you've cleared the fence, pause again and the geometry will reappear and you will be outside the park.

offical skate faq & info:

 • orginal post is located here

This thread is designed to hold all known information regarding the game Skate by EA Black Box. It will hopefully prevent most of the clutter regarding questions that have been answered 3-4 times already, as well as a good place for new users to begin understanding how awsomazing Skate truely is. This could get long... so i broke it down into sections to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

The sections are as follows:
 • General / Most Common
 • San Vanelona
 • Filming / Camera
 • Create a Skater
 • Sound Effects / Music
 • Character Movement / Tricks
 • Online Gameplay
 • Game Mechanics / Physics

This thread will be updated to the best of my ability as new information is released. Please also remember that this FAQ is based on what I learned about the game at Community Day, so if there is a mistake, I appologize in advance. Here we go!

General / Most common:

Q: Can you get off your board?
A: Unfortunately you will not be able to get off your board in Skate. Fortunately however, you wont miss this ability for the most part as the level designers did a great job making everything accessible by wheels.

Q: Can i snap my board after a lot of use?
A: You cannot snap your board in the game, although using it for a long time will most likely show some wear on it. Wear and tear has not been confirmed yet however, it is just speculation from what we have noticed about in game screenshots.

Q: When will the demo/game be released?
A: The demo is now available for the Xbox 360 via XBL, with the game available September 14th. The PS3 demo is in Sony's hands, and should be released before the full games release, which is scheduled for September 24th.

Q: How close is the game to being finished?
A: The game is finished and has gone gold. All that needs to be finished is printing enough copies and to ship them out!

Q: What is the learning curve in this game?
A: This game is newbie friendly, with more then enough challenge to keep the pro's busy as well. It is very pick up and play friendly, but you will never completely master the game, there will always be errors.

Q: How is the game SKATE played in this game? Is it by matching or points?
A: I'm happy to say that in Skate, you play the game of SKATE the way its meant to be played by matching your opponents move.

Q: How do the controls feel? Does it simulate real skating to some degree and are they responsive?
A: The controls feel great, although to truely appreciate them you have to forget everything you have played in the last 9 years in terms of skateboarding. They give you a good feeling of skating and accomplishment when you land something well, and they are quite responsive indeed.

Q: If I bail, do I have to get my board, or do i magically get it back by spawning?
A: When you bail, you will spawn where your character stopped his fall. If that spot is on bent over something or stuck in a corner, you will spawn a short distance away.

Q: Is there any split screen multiplayer in the game?
A: Unfortunatly there is no split screen in the game, although there is a party mode where you and up to 3 friends can play a game by swapping controllers for each persons turn.

San Vanelona:

Q: How many different areas are there in the City?
A: There are 14 different areas in San Vanelona, each with its own flavour and style. These sectors are quite large as well.

Q: How large is San Vanelona? I think the devs are lying when they tell us how big it is...
A: They aren't. The city is enormous! They say it takes 10-12 minutes to cross the entire thing from the most northern part to the most southern part, and it’s true. Of course, that is only 1 direction, there is still east and west to worry about. I played 4 zones in the game out of 14, and that was enough for a game already.

Q: Is the city realistic, or does it have ramps everywhere made of anything like that other game?
A: The map is fairly realistic, you won't see random quarterpipes and ramps in places they wouldn't make sense be. At the same time, the city was built by a skater, so there are plenty of interesting things to trick off of in the world.

Q: I heard that the entire city is open to you right from the begining, is there any hidden or unlockable areas in the game?
A: There are a total of 9 unlockable areas in the game that you have to prove your worth to get in to. The ultimate invitations being Danny Way's Mega Ramp and the X- Games. PS. There is no loading between zones, except maybe some of the special areas!

Q: Will I be able to create a skatepark anywhere in San Vanelona?
A: You wont be able to create a custom skate park in this game, but chances are you will forget about wanting to after seeing the size of the world. Blackbox created the world so that no 2 sessions would ever be the same, and it really shows. So while you wont be able to move around a couple objects in a small area, you'll still have tons of objects to trick off of wherever you go. The whole world is your skatepark!

Q: How's the weather in San Vanelona? Is there rain and snow, day and night?
A: San Vanelona is sunny and dry year round, so there are no rainy days or night times. Gotta wonder how people stay alive without water or sleep lol.

Filming / Camera:

Q: Can I film my friends when we play online?
A: You are unable to specifically film your friends in an online session this time around. However that isn't to say that they wont show up in your video if they skate near you. Doubles sessions are definitely possible, but the main focus of the video will always be the person recording it.

Q: The videos we have seen on the website so far look like the character floats sometimes, is the game actually like that?
A: Almost all of the videos you have seen so far have been made in the Skate.Reel program, and for some reason it can look like your character floats a bit more then they actually do. I assure you that when you play, it doesn’t look like you are floating at all.

Q: The new camera idea seems cool, but are there any noticeable problems with it while playing?
A: The camera is well implemented. The only time it goes a bit weird was when you are backed into a tight corner sometimes. Even then though, it won’t try to follow you because Its smart. The camera will start in front and to the side of you instead, and you skate past it before it begins to follow again. (remember, the camera is basically your buddy who is filming everything you do... he cant go through walls)

Q: Is the editor easy or complicated to learn? What can it do?
A: The editor is quite simple to learn, and you'll be making pro quality movies in no time on it. Use the joysticks to select the area of the clip you want to edit, then simply press a button to add cuts. Once you add a cut, you will see a simple menu that lets you change the speed of the clip, the camera angle, and the filter (effect). Combine those together and you've got a nice clip to upload to the EA server, which is only a button press away as well.

Q: How long can each clip be in Skate.Reel?
A: The video editor will hold about 30 seconds if video, plus or minus a few seconds depending on how much is going on around you. If there are a lot of pedestrians/cars/detail the environment around you, then the time will shorten slightly. If you are skating in an open place or somewhere with few AI components around, the editor will lengthen slightly. However, the maximum time that can be uploaded to Skate.Reel is 30 seconds, even if your clip could be slightly longer.

Q: How many videos and pictures can be uploaded to Skate.Reel at a time?
A: You will be allowed 3 videos per person on the EA Skate.Reel site. After which you will have to over write one if you want to add a new video. The number of pictures allowed is still unknown.

Create a Skater:

Q: Why can't I create a female skater?
A: This was a tough developer decision to make, but they weren't included in the interest of time. All clothes would have had to be remade for girls, as well as some new female specific clothing.

Q: Is there a difference between riding Regular or Goofy, normal and Switch?
A: Regular or Goofy is up to you, there is no difference as it is the way you stand on the board most comfortably. Your skater is also totally pro in that he can do any trick switch just as well as he does in his proper stance.

Q: Can I skate as a Pro in career mode?
A: You cannot skate as a pro in career mode, because career mode is all about you! However, you can skate as a pro in freeskate if you wish.

Q: What pros are in the game?
A: Danny Way, Rob Dyrdek, Chris Cole, PJ Ladd, Jason Dill, Jerry Hsu, Mark Gonzales, Dennnis Busenitz, Mike Carroll, Ryan Gallant, Ryan Smith, John Rattray, Colin Mckay, Pat Duffy, Paul Rodriguez, Terry Kennedy, Chris Haslam, Ali Boulala and Alex Chalmers.

Q: What sponsors are in the game?
A: Adidas, Alien Workshop, Almost, Autobahn, Black Label,Boost, Circa, CSS, Dakine, DC, Destructo, Diamond, Emerica, Enjoi, eS, Etnies, Fallen, FKD, Flip, Fourstar, Girl, Glost, Gold, G-spot, Independent, Iron, Kr3w, Krooked, Lakai, Lost, Matix, Momentum, Mountain Dew, Mystery, Nike SB, Nixon, OG, OGIO, Osiris, Plan B, Red Bull, Red Dragon (RDS), Real, Reflex, Royal, Silver, Spitfire, Spy, Swiss, Thunder, Venture, Vestal, Volcom, and Zero. You can be sponsored for your board, trucks, wheels and shoes in Skate, and you get bonus money for sporting their gear in your video/photo shoots. Choose wisely!

**(Sponsor list Courtasy of Volcom0061 from the IGN forums). Please note that in Cuz's blog, he says there are over 45 sponsors and there are 57 in this list. Therefore, dont hate if your favourite sponsor from this list doesn't end up in the game. If anyone has better information, please let me know and I will gladly fix this. **

Q: Can i customize my board to my liking in the game?
A: You will be able to tighten or loosen your trucks to gear it towards your personal preference, as well as choose how hard/soft your wheels will be. These will effect your ability to turn and the grip you have on the ground.

Sound Effects / Music:

Q: Are the sound effects good in the game? Are they appropriate for the surface you are skating on?
A: I played the first 2 hours or so without any music on, and I didn’t even realise it. The sound effects are very well implemented into the game and really help to immerse you into the experience. If you are skating on a sidewalk, you will know you are skating on a sidewalk. The sound crew did an amazing job in capturing a lot of different surfaces.

Q: What songs can we expect to hear in this game?
A: Here is a list of all the songs in Skate: http://faqs.ign. com/articles/796/796118p1.html

Q: Can i play my own music in game if i want?
A: As of right now, 360 users will be able to play their own music in game if they choose to. It is unknown if the PS3 version will have this ability as well.

Q: Can I add music to the videos I upload to EA's site?
A: You will not be able to add music to the videos posted on the EA Skate.Reel site due to copyright issues. However that's not to say you cant edit your clips together and add music on your own PC if you want.

Character Movement / Tricks:

Q: Do you have to push constantly to keep your speed up? Is it easy?
A: You have to push to gain speed, however if you get to the speed you like and are on flat ground, you can basically go forever at that speed. The devs did this so that people could get the proper speed you wanted without worrying about having to push constantly to move. If you are on a hill however, you have to push to keep going up it. All it takes is the press of a button to do, so it’s not hard.

Q: Do you have to balance during a grind or manual?
A: Your ability to grind depends on the speed and angle of your approach to the rail. If you are going fast enough and jump on the right angle, you will not fall off. However if you are grinding very slowly, you can slide off the rail. Pushing the left stick to the right or left can make you lean to one side, making it easier to slide off when going slow, but you don’t actually have to balance during a grind. Manuals don’t require balance either, you simply hold about half way back or forward on the right stick to do them. You can't do it forever though, as the longer you do it the more your skater wobbles. You don’t balance your skater, but your speed and the surface you are on effects how long your character can hold a manual.

Q: Can you stall/grind the coping of a halfpipe?
A: Yes you can, and it looks quite realistic too!

Q: Are flatland/freestyle tricks in the game?
A: Unfortunatly for you Mullen fans, other then the manual/nose manual, there are no flatland tricks this time around.

Q: Can I do a boneless/no comply/ollie north/boned ollie in Skate?
A: Unfortunatly, you wont be able to do any of these tricks in the first edition of Skate. The team has the controls planned for some of these tricks already, but had to cut them because of time issues.

Q: Can I do a Darkslide/Primo Grind?
A: You will not be able to do darkslides in Skate because of the physics/bail system. Skate 2 should allow you to catch your board upside down and therefore allow Darkslides

Q: Do you have to catch your trick to land it?
A: You don't have to catch the board to land, you just have to complete the proper motion to do the trick. Skate 2 may include the ability to catch your board though.

Q: Is it hard to get used to the control scheme?
A: Not at all! You'll get the basics of the game down within the first half hour at least. The more you play and practice, the easier and more natural they will become. After that, it’s up to you to push yourself to learn more complicated tricks and combos. The controls are fairly easy to get the hang of, but extremely hard to master. Thus, this game will have plenty of replay value for those who get very good at the game.

Online Gameplay

Q: How many players are able to play online at the same time?
A: Skate will allow up to 6 players to freeskate, or compete against eachother in various game modes.

Q: What type of games can we expect to compete in online?
A: There are multiple competitive based modes you can play against others online that will excite both the trick based players, and the speed freaks out there. These modes include: Freeskate - Chill with some friends skating around portions of the city at a time. SKATE - someone sets a trick and the others copy it… or they get a letter. Same as it's played in real life! Spot Battle (Jams) - a point-based game where you compete against people to see who can get the most points in a certain amount of time. Death Race - a gate race down big hills and through busy streets, filled with high speeds and painful bails. Spot Race - race to a spot as fast as you can and perform a certain trick/combo, or point score to move on to the next area.

Q: Will there be downloadable content (DLC) released after the game has come out?
A: The team has no plans to release downloadable content for the game after release, but there may be patches to fix glitches/bugs if necessary.

Game Mechanics / Physics:

Q: If I land on a set of stairs, will I keep going or bail?
A: It depends on how fast you are going. If you are going really slow, you can roll down them safely. If you are going fast, prepare to eat the rest of the stairs.

Q: Can I land a trick from any height?
A: If you jump from really high, you cant land at all. If you jump from a humanly possible hight to land, you can land it still. The higher you are though the more precise your landing has to be, so if you land a bit sideways on a high jump you will eat pavement.

Q: Are the ragdoll physics realistic in the game, or over exaggerated?
A: The ragdolls in the game are quite realistic. You will definitely have a bunch of "oouucchh" moments where you see your character land rather painfully. Bail videos will have merit in this game!

Q: Do objects such as rails have physical space, or is it like a block from the ground to the rail?
A: Everything in the game only takes up its physical space. This Means that if there is a rail high enough, you can go under it without hitting an invisible wall. This also enables the ability to do Hippy flips where your character jumps over something while your board flips under it.
